5. Taking naproxen with other painkillers. Do not take naproxen with ibuprofen or other NSAIDs. It's OK to take naproxen with paracetamol or co-codamol that you buy over the counter, but this should just be for short periods of time.

Answers (5) Only other over the counter pain reliever you should take with naproxen is tylenol. The other options such as ibuprofen or aspirin should not be taken along with the naproxen. If the naproxen isn't helping, then you need to tell the doc about it too.

Paracetamol is usually the best treatment for most types of pain, but naproxen is better for some types, such as period pain or back pain. When will I feel better? You should start to feel better 1 hour after taking naproxen.

Ask your doctor before using naproxen if you take an antidepressant such as citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline (Zoloft), trazodone, or vilazodone. Taking any of these medicines with an NSAID may cause you to bruise or bleed easily.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are a specific group of pain relievers. Some NSAIDs are available over the counter. This includes different brands of ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and ketoprofen. NSAIDs are usually safe for occasional use when taken as directed, but if you have known decreased kidney function, they should be avoided.

Gastro-resistant Naproxen aims to stop the tablet breaking down in the stomach, and is, therefore, less likely to cause irritation, stomach pain and complications like ulcers. Alternatively, Vimovo contains naproxen and esomeprazole, an added ingredient to protect your stomach.

Another NSAID, naproxen, is often taken to provide relief for patients with joint pain and arthritis, and it’s this that’s the active ingredient in Aleve, Anaprox, Naprosyn, and many other over-the-counter and prescription drugs.

At the very least, if ibuprofen or naproxen are the only options: They should be taken at least one hour after aspirin to give aspirin time to bind to platelets. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) should be taken no sooner than eight hours before aspirin, allowing enough time for the medication to be metabolized and eliminated from your system.
